Were the Whos in Whoville Covered for the Grinch’s Theft?

Every year around this time, my family inevitably settles in to watch an all time Christmas classic: How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Of course, the thought of waking up on Christmas morning to find all of your presents stolen (not to mention the roast beast and the last can of Who-hash), would be sad indeed. But, imagine how sad the Whos would be if their homeowners insurance claims were later denied or severely limited? The Grinch ruined Christmas (putting aside his later redemption), and committed several felonies in the process, but bears no responsibility if Lou Lou Who skimped on his homeowners insurance. Most homeowners insurance policies provide coverage for theft, but many have upper limits of between $1,000 to $1,500. That number is for all of your contents, not just your Christmas presents.

According to the narration, the Grinch took every present, “Pop guns! And bicycles! Roller skates! Drums! Checkerboards! Tricycles! Popcorn! And plums!” Would $1,000 have covered these presents? What of Betty Lou Who’s lavish jewelry? Or the floofloovers and whohoopers from last Christmas? The slooslunkas and blumbloopas that Cindy received for her last birthday? What of the bronze bust of Mayor Augustus Maywho? And the big Who-ass tv that Lou Lou Who bought last year to watch the Who-Bowl?

If you want to protect your family and your family’s stuff from the real life Grinches out there, you may want to take a look at your homeowners policy to make sure your coverage is sufficient. If it isn’t, you may find it hard to sing “Fahoo forays” when you receive your pittance from the insurance company.

If your homeowners' association is looking for a dedicated staff, you'll find them at Barker Martin. Our HOA had been in discussions with the developer for some time, but had made little progress. Barker Martin explained the process clearly, always kept us up-to-date, and worked extremely hard to bring the situation to a successful ending. They work not just for you, but with you. Our construction project is within days of completion. There is no way we could have accomplished it without Barker Martin.

On behalf of Timberton Village Homeowners Association Board of Directors, I would like to express our sincerest appreciation for the efforts of the entire Barker Martin Team for the successful defense of the protracted lawsuit against our association. Many thanks to the Team for their advice and guidance throughout the process our stressful lawsuit. The time and effort spent in getting to know our association was impressive.

Our HOA felt we were in a hopeless situation with minimal legal rights and we didn't trust anyone after what our builders put us through. Dan Zimberoff was always "cautiously optimistic" about our case, but in the end he had turned our situation into a major win that no one expected. I would recommend Barker Martin to all my friends with complete confidence. Dan will be our HOA attorney for many years to come
