Association Legal Audits
When a new car purchaser buys a car from a dealer, he or she is given a set of keys and a car manual. But what if the buyer had never owned a car? Or even driven a car? He or she would be relying completely on the procedures and instructions provided by the automobile manufacturer. The same may be true for new condominium or homeowner associations. The typical homeowner association board member is not a professional board member who has board experience. The board of directors relies in large part on the information provided exclusively by the developer. But what if the association’s governing documents have gaps or admissions or do not comply with strict and ever changing laws? For these reasons, many homeowner associations have gained the peace of mind of having a legal audit conducted of their governing documents and contracts. Barker Martin provides this service and a basic declaration amendment process for a flat fee.

We are also involved in several community and homeowner association industry groups, including committee and board membership, which enable us to stay informed on the latest trends within the community / homeowner association industry. Our attorneys regularly are asked to speak at industry seminars, legal seminars and committee meetings.

Legislative Action
Several of our attorneys are actively involved in the legislative process, including testifying before the Washington State Legislature on homeowner association issues.
